Islamabad: Spanish Ambassador Jose A. de Ory and Pakistan’s Caretaker Minister for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Gohar Ejaz, in a meeting on 9th October 2023, discussed bilateral trade and investment relations.
In a meeting held on Monday, 9th October 2023, the Spanish Ambassador and Caretaker Minister for Commerce and Industry Pakistan discussed bilateral trade between the two countries.
The Spanish ambassador encourages Pakistan to explore renewable energy opportunities with Spanish expertise in wind power generation. Furthermore, the Pakistani minister expressed a keen interest in collaborating with Spain to establish solar equipment facilities, recognizing Spain’s prominent position in the field of solar technology.
However, the main agenda of the meeting was to build a bipartite association to promote import and export between these two countries.
The Spanish ambassador highlighted that Spain is expanding businesses internationally, including South Africa and other countries, and Pakistan should also facilitate mutual business relationships.
He also invited Pakistan’s business delegation to Spain to discuss the collaboration and bilateral trade further.
In response, Pakistan’s Minister highlighted the country’s growing sports industry. He mentioned the manufacturing and export of branded sports goods.
While appreciating Spain’s interest and support in assisting Pakistan in securing the European Union’s GSP Plus status, Pakistan recognizes the significance of the GSP scheme, which offers developing nations a valuable incentive to advance sustainable development by eliminating import duties on over two-thirds of their exported tariff lines.
Pakistan has successfully cultivated bilateral relations with China, greatly benefiting the nation. The prospective Pakistan-Spain bilateral trade partnership holds the potential to usher in new opportunities and foster further development within the country.
